John k. matsumoto
JOHN K. MATSUMOTO was born and raised in Honolulu and graduated from Iolani School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law. John has served as Treasurer of the Elder Law Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association. John is a member of the Probate and Estate Planning Section, Tax Law Section and Elder Law Section of the Hawaii State Bar Association. He is also a frequent lecturer on estate planning and has hosted a weekly radio program on estate planning, probate and trust administration. Recently, John has authored a chapter in the Encyclopedia of Estate Planning sponsored by the Hawaii State Bar Association.
In his spare time, John serves on the Advisory Board for the Hawaii Lupus Foundation where he has also served as a Board of Director and Treasurer. John also serves as a Board of Director for Best Buddies. He has also served as a Board of Director for the Greater East Honolulu Community Association and has been a mentor for the University of Hawaii Business Plan Competition and High School Business Plan Competition. John was also an assistant varsity boys basketball coach for Kalani High School.
For the past three years, John was recognized as a 2011, 2012 and 2013 Five Star Wealth ManagerSM in Honolulu Magazine and Hawaii Business Magazine. This award recognizes the top seven percent of wealth managers in the Honolulu metropolitan area. In 2008, John was honored as a young business leader by Pacific Business News for their "Forty Under 40 Award." In 2004, John was selected as a member of the Pacific Century Fellows, a program patterned after the White House Fellows that chose a select group of Hawaii's young leaders. Prior to entering the practice of law, John served as an Acquisition Specialist doing Mergers and Acquisitions in Los Angeles, California and as an Accounting Manager for Century Small Business Solutions in Honolulu.
